Sounds In The Suburbs present...
THURSDAY 25TH SEPTEMBER 2014
Coming really quite soon the first scheduled gig of the season takes place on September the 25th at Woodend Bowling and Tennis Club and features the wonderful Brooks Williams who played at the venue last year. A genuinely nice bloke and an outstanding musician, great stories plus great songs, whats not to like! And supporting Brooks will be local talent Zoe Graham.
Brooks is ranked in the “Top 100 Acoustic Guitarists” and nominated “best male vocalist,” Brooks Williams’ music has been referred to as “Pan-Americana Roots'n’Blues, doused in Moonshine alt-Billy and delicious Dixie.” As anyone who caught his last show will testify he is a stunning performer, the proverbial triple threat, with fiery guitar playing, smooth-as-silk singing, and stunning songs. fRoots says Williams is “absolutely beyond criticism!” The Statesboro Georgia native got his start in the clubs of the Northeast. 20 albums later he tours the world. His music walks the line between blues and Americana. Martin Simpson calls Brooks “A lovely player, a lovely singer, and a great writer. The real thing”
A few days after that we have the return of the fabulous Coal Porters featuring the ever entertaining musical legend Sid Griffin and a new Porters line up. Supporting then that evening will be the First Charge of the Light Brigade who will be doing songs from their new CD. Then in October we have a great run of gigs which includes a major coup in getting Michelle Shocked to play at Woodend on Sunday the 5th of October, this will sell out so please let me know if you want tickets.
