The 8-piece Espedair Street Band plays only the music of Scottish ‘pop’ artists. In recent years there has been a resurgence of traditional music fused with folk, jazz and rock – while this is an important part of Scottish culture, so too is Scottish contemporary music over the past 5 decades. The diverse Espedair Street Band’s set covers all genres of Scottish ‘pop’ music, including:
•60’s hits (Marmalade, Lulu).
• 70’s disco and funk (Kelly Marie, Average White Band)
•Classic pop (Middle of the Road, Bay City Rollers).
•Critically acclaimed artists (Gerry Rafferty, Frankie Miller).
•Classic 80’s music (Eurythmics, Hipsway).
•Internationally renowned bands (Texas, Deacon Blue, Travis).
•More traditionally influenced music (Runrig, Proclaimers).
•21st century acts (Amy Macdonald, Fratellis, Paolo Nuttini, KT Tunstall).
The excellent Iain Banks 1987 novel (set in the 70’s around a Scottish rock band) was no doubt influential but the band’s name is taken from the actual Paisley street where international session guitarist, Tony Fitzsimmons (stage name Stalloné), grew up. Stalloné recently returned to Scotland, after a distinguished career involving live and recording session work for various ‘names’ from New York to Nashville.
