Journey to the centre of The Earth
THURSDAY 1ST MAY 2014
2014 sees the 40th anniversary of the release of Rick Wakeman’s landmark concept album, Journey To The Centre Of The Earth based on the novel by Jules Verne.
Rick Wakeman with The Jules Verne Symphony Orchestra and choir plus the English Rock Ensemble will celebrate this anniversary with a state of the art, dramatic, live arena presentation of this epochal, classical-rock crossover work touring the world.
This new live show is set to thrill the millions who grew up with the original album and the many film and TV adaptations of the novel, and introducing Wakeman, Dean and Verne to a new generation of concert-goers.
Rick Wakeman's Journey To The Centre Of The Earth has sold over 15million copies worldwide. It sits alongside the most successful concept albums of the rock era alongside The Beatles’ Sgt Pepper, David Bowie's Ziggy Stardust and Meat Loaf's Bat Out Of Hell. Its release in 1974 was arguably the high watermark of the progressive rock genre, currently enjoying a well-documented revival, and hugely influential on the likes of Radiohead, Elbow and Muse.
The new Journey To The Centre Of The Earth show will include state-of-the-art graphics and jaw-dropping visuals by Dean, to be projected on huge screens and backdrops at every venue. Internationally renowned for the fantasy landscapes and eye-catching logos he created for Yes, Asia and Uriah Heep, Dean is responsible for all of the graphics and designs and is also Creative Director for the stage presentation.
