Sounds In The Suburbs present...
TUESDAY 14TH OCTOBER 2014
So we are now four gigs into the autumn season and all have been great and featured a range of sparkling performances, so a huge thanks to all of you who have turned out to support live music. Next up on Tuesday the 14th of October is one of my favourite artists Rod Picott who will be supported by Zoe Graham who went down so well when opening up for Brooks Williams
This will be Rod’s fourth visit to Woodend and each time the audience has grown which is a reflection of his great talent for penning a great song and telling some great stories. Rod has had his songs covered by Ray Wylie Hubbard, Slaid Cleaves and Fred Eaglesmith among others but it’s his brilliant stage show and his instant rapport with his audience that sets this Maine wordsmith apart from the rest. Rod’s songs tackle important subjects and stand up there with the very best compositions of the past twenty years.
I’d urge you to make the effort to come to this one, Rod deserves a big crowd and you won’t be disappointed.
Here’s what others very well informed folks say:-
"Rod Picott's songs glow with both self-awareness and humility. The truth of who we are is slippery, hard to contain, and most people have very little interest in it. Nonetheless, it is the work of an artist to find that truth and show it to us in ways that will see it. Welding Burns, Rod's new collection of songs, is a fine example of an artist doing just that. The songs on this record reflect the realities of the time we live in, and they contain hard truths. The songs are both beautiful and disturbing, and are the work of an artist who deserves to be heard. I hope he sells a million copies." -Mary Gauthier
